أعلن الرئيس الروسي فلاديمير بوتين أن روسيا ستسعى خلال رئاستها لمنظمة شنغهاي للتعاون إلى توسيع هذه المنظمة الدولية وزيادة فعاليتها.
وأشار بوتين في كلمة ألقاها في جلسة موسعة لقمة المنظمة في دوشنبه الجمعة 12 سبتمبر/أيلول، إلى أن زعماء هذا المنتدى سيوقعون على اتفاقات مهمة تسمح بتهيئة الظروف اللازمة لانضمام دول جديدة إليه.
من جهة أخرى أكد الرئيس الروسي أن زعماء المنظمة بحثوا عددا من القضايا الدولية، بما في ذلك الأزمة الأوكرانية، مشيرا إلى أن مواقف دول منظمة شنغهاي للتعاون في هذا المجال متطابقة أو متقاربة.
من جانبه أعلن رئيس كازاخستان نور سلطان نزاربايف أن الهند وباكستان طلبتا رسميا الانضمام إلى منظمة شنغهاي للتعاون، معربا عن أمله في أن تحصل الدولتان على عضوية كاملة فيها.
من جهة أخرى ربط نزاربايف بين نجاح المفاوضات حول قضية الملف النووي الإيراني وآفاق انضمام إيران إلى منظمة شنغهاي للتعاون.
بدوره أكد رئيس طاجيكستان إمام علي رحمن، الذي يرأس القمة الحالية أن المنظمة رحبت بتوقيع اتفاق مينسك الرامي إلى تسوية الوضع في جنوب شرق أوكرانيا، والذي يستند إلى خطة الرئيس الأوكراني ومبادرة الرئيس الروسي.
